The flag and arms of Hinojos, adopted on 19 December 1998 by the Municipal Council, are prescribed by Decree No. 12, adopted on 24 January 2000 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 22 February 2000 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 22 (text). This was confirmed by a Resolution adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 11 x 18, made of five parallel stripes perpendicular to the hoist. The first, second, fourth and fifth, yellow, in width 1/8, and the third, in width 4/8, in crimson red, green, white, green , and crimson red, respectively. Charged in the center with the local coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Spanish shield. Argent a pine vert fructed of the same on a mount gules surrounded dexter by a sword gules pointing to the base and sinister by a Spanish Cross of St. James of the same. A bordure vert inscribed with "NO8DO" in letters argent in base. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
The designer originally proposed on 5 December 1994 a "rehabilitation" of the arms, "Or a tree vert on a base of the same surrounded dexter by a sword gules pointing down to the base and sinister by a Cross of St. James gules. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed". The motto was dropped, as a private attribute of the Council of Seville, inappropriate here. This was refused by the Municipal Council; accordingly, the designer moved the motto to the bordure of the shield.
The designer also proposed a flag, "Rectangular, in proportions 11 x 18, made of three parallel stripes perpendicular to the hoist, the first and the second in width 1/8 and the third 6/8, green, red, and yellow, respectively, with the coat of arms placed in the center. The design was rejected by the Municipal Council.
The coat of arms is based on the old motto of the town, "Hard like a pine, strong like a mountain, valiant like a sword, Christian as a cross, and loyal as NO8DO".
