Presentation of Rincón de la Victoria

The municipality of Rincón de la Victoria (37,145 inhabitants in 2008; 2,751 ha; municipal website), located on the Costa del Sol, is part of the Málaga metropolitan area.
Until 1949, the municipality was named Benagalbón after its main settlement, known in antiquity as Bezmiliana. The seat of the municipality was then transferred to the village of Rincón de la Victoria, a former fishing village built on a beach flanked by two rocky spurs (therefore its name, in Spanish, "the nook"); the Minims owned there a sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin of the Victory (victoria).

In the blue stripe are three white stripes of 1/9 the hoist, the first 2/9 of the border and 1/9 between each. In the middle of the yellow stripe is the municipal coat of arms surrounded by four five-pointed blue stars. The size of the shield is so that it can be inscribed in a ring whose diameter is 1/4 the hoist ; the size of the stars is so that each can be inscribed in a ring whose diameter is 5/16 the hoist. The placement of the centers is at 0, 45, 180 and 315 degrees, taken as the origin the extreme line of the ring. The star placed at hoist has its horizontal placement at 1/32 from the hoist. The colours are yellow PMS 109c on the Pantone scale, blue PMS 287c and white. The reverse is the inverted image of the obverse, except the coat of arms that is represented as it is.

The coat of arms of Rincón de la Victoria, adopted on 28 May 2004 by the Municipal Council and submitted on 9 June 2004 to the Directorate General of the Local Administration, is prescribed by a Resolution adopted on 2 July 2004 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 22 July 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 143, p. 16,325 (text).

The second quarter represents the castle of Bezmiliana and the other fortifications of the town. The third quarter represents a boat of Phoenician origin, symbolizing fishing as one of the most important sources of income for the municipality. The moon surmounted by planet Venus recalls the sacred character of the planet in the region in the Prehistoric period.
