Symbols of Villanueva de San Juan

The flag of Villanueva de San Juan, adopted on 6 August 1990 by the Municipal Council and validated by the Royal Academy of History, is prescribed by Decree No. 51, adopted on 17 March 1992 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 5 May 1992 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 37, p. 2,464 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Panel in proportions 2:3. Vertically divided in the middle, the hoist half, yellow. Three red gyrons, in base half of the flag's length in the yellow part and in height 1/3 of the flag's hoist each. The other half, at fly, green.

The coat of arms of Villanueva de San Juan is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 20 November 1985 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 5 December 1985 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 115, p. 3,428 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The coat of arms is prescribed as follows:

Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Or three gyrons gules a bordure checky or and gules of three orders, 2. Vert a scallop argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The coat of arms was submitted on 10 May 1984 to the Municipal Council by Juan José Antequera Luengo and adopted on 19 June 1984.
The Royal Academy of History validated the proposed coat of arms "without any inconvenience". The 1st quarter shows the arms of the Téllez-Girón lineage, recalling that the town belonged to the Duchy of Osuna. The second quarter symbolizes St. John the Baptist, the town's namesake and patron saint.
