The municipality of Labajos (153 inhabitants in 2010; 2,096 ha) is located in the southwest of Segovia Province, on the border with Ávila Province, 45 km from Segovia.
Labajos is the death place of Onésimo Redondo (1905-1936), the founder in 1931 of the fascist journal Libertad and of the Juntas Castellanas de Actuación Hispánica (Castilian Groups of Hispanic Action), merged the next year with Ramos' group to form the JONS (Juntas de Ofensiva Nacional Sindicalista - Unions of the National- Syndicalist Offensive) and merged in 1934 with Primo de Rivera's Falange Española (Spanish Phalanx). Leader of an armed group of phalangists during the Civil War, Redondo was killed in Labajos during a fighting with CNT members. Proclaimed a "martyr of the Crusade" by Franco, Redondo was made, posthumously, Count of Labajos, where he is still honoured by a controversial monument (photo).
