The municipality of Sotillo de las Palomas (193 inhabitants in 2018; 1,885 ha; municipal website) is located 100 km north-west of Toledo and 20 km north of Talavera de la Reina.

Sotillo de las Palomas belonged to the domain of Navamorcuende, granted to the Dávila family by the Council of Ávila; this was confirmled by Kings Alfonso X and Ferdinand IV (1309).
The villagers required a charter and separation from the Marquisate of Navamorcuende in 1546; approved by the Chancellory of Valladolid, the separation was postponed to 14 December 1692.
