The municipality of Villamiel de Toledo (867 inhabitants in 2018; 4,200 ha) is located 25 km north-west of Toledo and 25 km east of Torrijos.
Villamiel was first mentioned, as Villamelis, in a document signed on 26 February 1176 by Alfonso VIII, confirming the privilege granted to the estate by Alfonso VII to Pedro Alguacil.
Villamiel subsequently belonged to the Commandery of El Viso de San Juan, ran by the Order of Saint John.

The flag of Villamiel de Toledo (photo) is prescribed by an Order issued on 22 November 1996 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 5 December 1996 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 53, pp. 5,795-5,796 (text).
The flag is described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, red with a white triangle running from the hoist to the fly's mid-point.
The coat of arms of Villamiel de Toledo is prescribed by an Order issued on 22 November 1996 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 5 December 1996 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 53, pp. 5,795-5,796 (text).
The flag is described as follows:
Coat of arms: Spanish shield. Argent three bee-hives gules a chief gules a cross argent. The shield surmounted by a Spanish Royal crown.
The coat of arms, proposed in 6 December 1993 by Ventura Leblic, was adopted on 28 March 1994.
The bee-hives represent a possible settlement by Mozarab bee-keepers and makes the arms canting (miel, "honey").
The cross recalls that Villamiel once belonged to the Order of Saint John.
