A salvage and tug company founded in 1910 originally to provide service to the family timber sawmills. In 1945 Alfons Håkans formed the current company to continue support for the forest industry and offshore towage. In 1985 the company took over icebreaking operations when the services were privatized. Purchased Hangon Hinaus Ltd in 1988 and established Finntugs the same year. In 1991 the company purchased Satamahinaus Ltd (Helsinki) and began offshore towage in 1996. The company is principal shareholder in Suomen Merisukellus.

Yellow with the company logo in blue. I suppose the whole logo consists of a symbol (a disc containing the end of a trident displayed horizontally) plus the lettering (ECKERÖ LINE) and the bar with narrow diagonal interruptions.
Jorge Candeias, 17 February 1999

The Finnish book Suomi ja meri shows a blue pennant bearing the emblem of a circle charged with an "E". Trying to ascertain the correct shade of blue based on the funnel emblem from sundry photos has proved inconclusive.

Blue with white E

Rederi Ab Engship is a family business founded by the brothers Kurt and Kaj Engblom.

The family made a living by navigating galleasses and other small ships until 1956, when the last galleass Apostol was sold. Georg Engblom, Karl-Johan's son, then bought together with his sons Kurt and Kaj a road ferry Fix, which was rebuilt into the cargo ship Hulda with a deadweight of 130 tons. In seven years the shipping company managed to earn with the Hulda the capital, which enabled the company to buy the Mona, a ship with nearly double the size of the Hulda. Georg Engblom handed over his interest in the company to his sons in 1966, who resolutely began to develop the shipping company operations.

Kurt and Kaj Engblom bought the Bryggman's share in the Yvonne Shipping Company in 1972.

At the close of the 80's it was evident that the activities of the rapidly growing shipping company should be diversified. In 1988 Engship bought a small shipping company with a ro-ro ship called Svanö, specialized in the transportation of forest products. It was an ideal purchase for Engship, who had acquired both the possession of a ro-ro ship and a freight contract

In the 80's Rederi Ab Engship together with other Finnish and Åland shipowners worked hard to improve the probability of being able to continue with what is called small tonnage under the Finnish flag.
