The municipality of San-Martino-di-Lota (2,896 inhabitants in 2018; 954 ha) is located in eastern Corsica, a few kilometers of Bastia. Once known as Pieve du Lota, the municipality is composed of 11 hamlets: Pietranera, Grisgione, Licciola, Canale, Castagneto, Casanova, Acqualta, Oratoggio, Aneto, Mola and Mucchiete.

The flag of San-Martino-di-Lota, as seen in summer 2020, is white with the municipal arms, "Per bend sinister, 1. Argent a saint Martin on horseback offering half of his cloak to a beggar proper, 2. Argent a Moor’s head surrounded by twelve Maltese crosses gules, the upper one sable.
St. Martin of Tours is among most popular saints in Corsica, with some 60 dedicated churches, although there is no historical evidence backing up the local tradition claiming he preached on the island. His hagiography reports that he went on exile for two years on the desert islet of Gallinara, located off Albenga on the Ligurian coast of Italy (that is, quite far from Corsica), after having been expelled from Milan by the Arian heretics.
The 11 crosses gules surrounding the Moor's head might represent the hamlets, while the 12th cross on top might represent the whole municipality.
