The municipality of Bazouges-la-Pérouse (1,856 inhabitants in 2019; 5,818 ha) is
located 40 km north-east of Rennes.
Bazouges-la-Pérouse emerged in the 7th century, as a parish which would belong
to Notre-Dame de Fougères in the 11th century and then to the Rillé abbey around 1163. After having belonged to Maffroy de Bazouges in
1090 and, in the 12th century to Raoul I de Fougères, the domain
remained until 1789 with the barons de Fougères, who used the castle of La Ballue as
their state residence.

The flag of Bazouges-la-Pérouse (photo) is white with the municipal coat of arms, "Argent three trees vert a chief azure three fleurs-de-lis or".
According to Michel Froger (Armoiries des villes de Bretagne), the trees featured on the arms are beeches, representing the Villecartier forest (1,000 ha), which is completely located on the municipal territory.
