Faucigny is one of the traditional provinces of Savoy. It is roughly
made of the valleys of the rivers Arve and Giffre.
Faucigny was named after the Roman lord of the area, Falcinius.
In the 11th-13th centuries, the lords of Faucigny were the most powerful
in Savoy. In 1290, Beatrix de Faucigny founded a new capital,
called la bonne ville (today, Bonneville), and developed trade there by suppressing all taxes.
Faucigny was incorporated into Savoy in 1355.
