The Fédération française de golf (FFG; website) was established in 1912 as the Union des golfs de France and renamed Fédération française de golf on 13 January 1933. In 1950, the Federation grouped 44 greens and 4,122 members; the figures increased to 79 greens and 11,500 members in 1960. Membership did not keep increasing: 20,448 in 1970, 38,783 in 1980, more than 100,000 in 1987, 181,147 in 1990, nearly 300,000 in 2000, and 418,340 in 2011. The FFG is therefore the 6th biggest French sports federation by its membership.
The FFG organizes every year the Open de France, established in 1906 and member of the European Tour, and the Ladies Open de France, established in 1987 and member of the Ladies European Tour. The FFG will organize the famous Ryder Cup in 2018.
The Open de France is played on the Albatros course at the Golf National of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, inaugurated on 5 October 1990. The Golf National, managed by the FFG, is the Golf National Technique Center.

The flag of the FFG (photo) is white with the federation's logo, made of the writing "ffgolf", "ff" in blue and "golf" in green, and a red rooster inscribed in a red disk. The rooster is the traditional French sports emblem.
