The Société Provençale d'Affrêtement et d'Armement (SPAA), founded in 1920 by L. Gouriou and J. Jousset, purchased in 1920 four trawler-patrol boats from the French Navy, SS Ibérique, Gaêlique, Corinthique and Celtique. The company had diverse activities, mostly fishing and coastal shipping.
In 1925, the company set up an alliance with the Corsican shipowners
Maestracci and Carlini. Maestracci brought SS La-Corse, suitable for a
scheduled line with Corsica. The ship and the company were sold off in
1929, but Carlini maintained the line with another ship also named La-Corse.

P. Bois [boi03] shows the house flag of the SPAA as white with a black fouled anchor in canton and a light blue ring in lower fly. The white letters "SPAA" are placed on the ring at 9:00, 3:00, 0:00 and 6:00, respectively.
