A colour flag chart included in the Bouasse-Lebel encyclopaedia shows a flag labelled P[avillon] de Télégraphe.
Looking at the other flags shown on the chart, its reliability can be estimated at fairly high and the chart can be dated from the end of the XIXth century. Bouasse-Lebel was a publisher
active in Paris, rue de Saint-Sulpice, at the end of the XIXth century
and beginning of the XXth century. As most shops located near
Saint-Sulpice's church, Bouasse-Lebel was specialized in religious (here
Roman Catholic) matters, but also published a more general
encyclopaedia. Parts of it can be found on antiquary catalogues, but
they are always listed as "not dated". Therefore, we can only speculate
the publishing year of our source.
The telegraph flag is yellow with a blue descending diagonal stripe. This stripe is charged with three yellow six-pointed stars twisted to the upper right corner. The flag is labelled Pavillon, from which we can infer it was used at sea.
