Notes
The golden
waves on the deep blue represent our famous sandy beach and sea views, with sand
dunes as a backdrop. The beach and sea are nationally known for their views but
also for their use by sand sports enthusiasts and kiting experts. Towards the
hoist portion of the design is charged a white lifeboat which represents the
“Laura Janet”, the lifeboat which was lost with great loss of life in the
biggest disaster in the RNLI’s history. It represents therefore the maritime
heritage of our town as well as the bravery and sacrifice of its citizens. The
boats’ placement towards the hoist of the design recalls the areas original name
of “West End”, when the area was the western part of the ancient Parish of
Lytham. before it became a parish in its own right in the late 19th Century.
