James Dignan, 2 November 2005
"Wedding flags were used at marriages in fishing communities. The flag could
be made by the bride herself and would be hoisted from the mast of the groom's
boat on the eve of the wedding. After the celebrations the youngest member of
the crew brought it down. It was said that the state of the flag was an
indicator of the how the marriage would go!" - Jennifer Gordon, Assistant/Acting
Curator, Scottish Fisheries Museum.
