Blue ensign with club badge: red saltire on white shield, in each quarter a grey castle, garland of yellow leaves, surmounted by a St. Edward's crown.

This variant is based on a photograph of the ensign flying in front of the
yacht club. It has a smaller more traditional 4/9 ensign width
sized badge in
the lower fly quarter. The image at the top of this page is the one often seen
on websites.

Not mentioned in the history of the club,
http://www.rpcyc.com/history, is
that the special ensign warrant was withdrawn in 1929, probably because too few
requests were being made for yacht warrants. The club warrant was restored in
1977 following an application, supported by David Owen, Foreign Secretary, and a
local Member of Parliament.

The Dumpy Book of Ships and the Sea (1957)
shows the burgee blue, with a shield flanked by two leaves and surmounted by a
crown. The shield appears to be from the arms shown at
http://www.plymouthdata.info/CoatofArms.htm, though whether they are in
these colours or simplified to white and blue, I do not know.
