Overview

Qaasuitsup (Kalaallisut: Qaasuitsup Kommunia) is a new municipality in Greenland, created on 1 January 2009. The administrative center of the municipality is in Ilulissat (formerly called Jakobshavn). The municipality consists of the former municipalities of western and northern Greenland: Aasiaat, Kangaatsiaq, Ilulissat, Qaanaaq, Qasigiannguit, Qeqertarsuaq, Uummannaq, and Upernavik.
The municipality is located in northwestern Greenland. It is the largest municipality in the world by area, even larger than France.
