The municipality of Darda (7,062 inhabitants in 2001, 5,934 in the town of Darda) is located just across river Drava from Osijek.
Željko Heimer, 18 September 2005
The symbols of Darda are described in Article 5 of the consolidated Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Darda - pročišćeni tekst, adopted on 18 April 2007 by the Municipality Assembly and published in the Municipality official gazette Službeni glasnik općine Darda.
It is not clear whether the symbols were adopted with the original
2001 Statutes or in one of the subsequent amendments (2002 and 2006). Since the Statutes do not mention any aditional Decision regarding the symbpols, it seems that they were indeed determined (adopted) by adoption of the Statutes or their amendments.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, yellow with the coat of arms in the middle.

Coat of arms of Darda - Image by Željko Heimer, 18 September 2005
The coat of arms is "Azure a semi-griffin or crowned of the same langued gules issuant from a crown also or holding in its dexter a sabre argent handled or and in its sinister three roses gules seeded and barbed argent and slipped sable".
The coat of arms is based on the arms of the Esterházy von Galantha, one of the most important Croatian noble families and rulers of Darda in the 19th century. The family gave several Croatian bans (viceroys) and number of bishops and archbishops. The ancient Esterházy coat of arms was similar, but the griffin was shown completely, standing on the crown; when they were granted princely status in 1712, it was made more complicated by quartering etc. Casimir Esterházy built a castle in Darda that is a cultural monument today.

Table flag of Darda - Image by Željko Heimer, 22 August 2014
The table flag is the vertical version of the municipality flag with the name inscribed in two lines above the coat of arms. It seems to be used either in the usual 1:2 (photo) or 2:3 (video) proportions.
