The municipality of Sukošan (4,402 inhabitants in 2001; 2,603 in the village of Sukošan) is located 10 km south of Zadar, along the coast.
Together with the northern neighboring municipality of Bibinje, it manages a world-famous yachting marina.
Željko Heimer, 4 October 2003
The symbols of Sukošan are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Sukošan (text), adopted on 8 April 1999 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 3 May 1999 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Zadarske županije, No. 4.
The symbols are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Sukošan, adopted on 23 August 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 17 September 2001 in Službeni glasnik Općine Sukošan, No. 5. This is repeated in the current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Sukošan (text), adopted on 6 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published in Službeni glasnik Općine Sukošan.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.
The flag is described in Article 9 of the Decision as follows:
The flag is of a single colour - yellow, with a ratio of length to width of 2:1, in accordance with the Law. In the middle of the flag, at the crossing point of the diagonals, is the coat of arms of the municipality, printed on both sides, bordered yellow.
Although the text of the Decision clearly states that the coat of arms should be bordered golden in the flag, the actual flags in use, as well as the graphic in the gazette shows the coat of arms without any outline.
Article 5 of the Municipality Statutes gives a much simpler description of the flag:
The flag of the municipality of Sukošan is in proportions 1:2, yellow with the coat of arms of the municipality in its middle.
The golden border of the coat of arms is no longer mentioned.

The coat of arms is described in Article 6 of the Decision as follows:
The coat of arms of the municipality of Sukošan is in a triangular, heart-shaped shield, on a blue field, from the left side of the shield is issuing an arm in a golden sleeve with a silver feather - the attribute of St. Cassian, and in the top right corner a golden anchor - the symbol of the "Golden Harbor" of Sukošan.
Article 5 of the Municipality Statutes gives a much simpler description of the flag:
The coat of arms of the municipality of Sukošan is coloured blue, from the left side a hand is issuing in a golden sleeve with a silver feather and in the top right corner a golden anchor.
The hand with the feather is the attribute of St. Cassian of Imola, the patron saint and namesake of the municipality. The anchor refers to the name of the Zlatna Luka Bay (Italian, Porto d'Oro; Golden Harbor), today the largest marina on the Croatian coast.

The ceremonial flag is described in Article 10 of the Decision as follows:
Exceptionally, during the ceremonial occasions (Municipality Day, imortant anniversaries, ceremonial sessions), one may use the flag of the Municipality of Sukošan made in the manner of medieval gonfalons (ceremonial flag of the municipality).
The gonfalon is in size 80 cm x 160 cm, made of Atlas silk coloured yellow. Along the edges it is bordered with a golden ribbon, and on the bottom with three tails ornamented with fringe.
In the middle of the gonfalon there is the coat of arms of the Municipality of Sukošan bordered golden.
Above the coat of arms is a semi-circular inscription of golden letters "OPĆINA SUKOŠAN".
Under the coat of arms are depicted branches of vine on the left connected with the olive on the right.
The kit of hoisting, carrying and displaying the gonfalon consists of a brazen staff, a golden cordon with ornamental tassels and brazen ring, a brazen carrying spear 2,8 m high and a unique forged base, coloured golden.
