The municipality of Zaprešić (23,125 inhabitants in 2001, 17,538 in the town ofZaprešić) was until 1993 part of the Town of Zagreb, as a Community; it was granted the status of Town in 1995.

The symbols of Zaprešić are described by Decision Odluka o grbu, zastavi, slovoliku (logotipu) i Danu Grada Zaprešića, adopted on 24 September 1996 by the Town Assembly and published on 12 December 1996 in the Zagreb County official gazette Glasnik Zagrebačke Županije, No. 18.
The symbols are described in the Town Statutes Statut Grada Zaprešića, adopted on 22 November 2001 by the Town Assembly and published on 24 December 2001 in Glasnik Zagrebačke Županije, No. 24. This is repeated in the Town Statutes Statut Grada Zaprešića, adopted on 14 July 2009 and published on 15 July 2009 in the Town official gazette Službeni novine Grada Zaprešića, No. 4.
The flag is described as yellow with the coat of arms in the middle, in "height 1.6:1 to the length of the shorter side of the flag". If I interpret that correctly, it means that the height of the coat of arms is 62.5% of the flag width.
According to an unconfirmed story, the yellow colour of the flag was chosen as a reference to the papal flags, as the flag was being adopted in the time immediately following the visit of Pope John Paul II to Croatia in 1994.

The flag has been slightly redesigned (no blue rim around the coat of arms) but both variants can still be found in use because that difference isn’t really too big.

The flag of University of Applied Sciences "Baltazar" (photo) is white with the institute's logo.
The institute is named after historian, theologian and lawyer Baltazar Adam Krčelić (1715-1778), who was born in Zaprešić's village of Šenkovec.
