Last week I was at Debrecen. Last year I had seen the Previous Flags , and now they readopted the
blue-yellow-blue Historical Flag which was
flying in the city (ratio: 2:3). I think it was readopted in
summer 2001.

This flag (Blue, yellow and blue "spanish" triband
(1+2+1, horiz.)), appears at Dr. Széll Sándor: Városaink
neve, címere és lobogója (1941) as " Debrecen,
Hajdú Co. ".

Debrecen city - "In the Coat of Arms of the city there is
a Phoenix relates to the renewal. The red tongues of flame relate
to conflagrations devastated the city, but symbolise the freedom
too. The open book emphasizes the school-town type of Debrecen
and the progressive traditions of its intellectual life. The
cog-wheel symbolises the existence of the socialist industry and
the energetic development of the industrialization of the
city."
