Reports of an Independentist Flag

I saw a report on BBC World News about demonstrators in Sulawesi protesting before the island/provincial governor's office building, asking for autonomy for Sulawesi. Several of them were flying light orange flags, with a white circle on the middle containing an orange map of Sulawesi. The circle was 2/3 of the hoist in diameter, and the flag had a 1:2 ratio. There were several flags to be seen clearly, and they did not appear to be home made.

A possible rendition of the flag of the Sulawesi separatist movement as reported by David Fowler quoting from Agence France Presse. Assumed ratio: 2:3; assumed map color: white.

In the Indonesian Army Museum in Jakarta (July 2007) was a flag display (showing the real flag and a painted picture). The Sulawesi independence flag is from Aug 7th 1953, the Sulawesi self-proclaimed independence.  The flag is 2: 3 flag in proportion, a red field charged with a yellow crescent and three 5 pointed stars in the canton.

Permesta

I don't know what the flag of Permesta looked like but in Flagmaster no. 079 (1995) it says (after the flags of the states of the United States of Indonesia [RIS]):
"Some states resisted incorporation and still do. These include: Minahasa, or Permesta (a district in north Celebes). Its flag was said to be yellow with a black letter P (for 'Permesta').[...]"

I don't think Permesta is a district, but rather a movement active in Minahasa (among others I presume) in the early 1960s.
Mark Sensen, 27 December 1999
