Princely States of Punjab (Eastern), Present-day Punjab

Area: 15, 390 sq.km
Acceded to the Union of India on August 20, 1948
History: Claiming descent from Jaisal, founder of the State of Jaisalmer in
1156, the founder of the Sikh dynasty, Phul, was Chaudhri (Governor) of a
country located at the south east of Dihli. Phul's descendants founded 3 States:
Patiala, Jind and Nabha. In 1763, the Emir of Afghanistan awarded the Chaudhri
the dignity of Raja."
Flag:
The Principality of Patiala has a rectangular flag with seven equally wide
horizontal stripes, red - green - yellow - red - yellow - green - red; the arms
are placed at the fly-side; towards the hoist a sabre, placed vertically and
between the arms and the sabre a black shield with five small white disks; the
sabre has a yellow hilt and a white blade; the arms are covering the five
central stripes.
