Followers of the Hindu/Hinduism religion are called "Hindus" (well, by many
English speakers anyway). For clarification, "Hindi" is a language of
Indo-European origin spoken widely in India, Pakistan, and other South-Asian
countries. Sanskrit is the mother of many Indian languages including Hindi. I do
not mean to get involved in a long-winded discussion about the British
"colonialism" of India during the mid-1750s, but just a quick note that "India"
in an English word for, well, "India"; but, apparently, the locals strongly like
referring to their country as "Bharat". Since c. 2000 there has been a "Bharat
Army" -- members who tout themselves as the "Official Indian Cricket Supporters
Group" in support of all India cricket teams, and not just their national team.
