Overview

"Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, FIA (English: International Automobile Federation) is an association (first established as L'Association Internationale des Automobile Clubs Reconnus, AIACR English: International Association of Recognized Automobile Clubs) on June 20, 1904, to represent the interests of motoring organisations and motor car users. To the general public, the FIA is mostly known as the governing body for many auto racing events.
FIA is a global organization that promotes motor sport, (as well as) safe, sustainable and accessible mobility for all road users across the world. As such, the federation works across three key interlinked areas of activity – Sport, Campaigns and Mobility."

Sky Blue Flag Variant

image by Zoltan Horvath, 15 September 2017

It has come to my attention that there seems to be another flag for FIA. It is a sky blue horizontal background with the logo in the middle as seen here, here (first flag from left to right), here (second flag from left to right) and here (third flag from left to right).

FIA Formula 1 Championship Flag

[Flag of FIA] image by Esteban Rivera, 18 September 2009

Formula One, also known as Formula 1 or F1, and currently officially referred to as the FIA Formula One World Championship, is the highest class of auto racing sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The "formula" in the name refers to a set of rules to which all participants and cars must comply. The F1 season consists of a series of races, known as Grand Prix, held on purpose-built circuits, and to a lesser extent, former public roads and closed city streets. The results of each race are combined to determine two annual World Championships, one for the drivers and one for the constructors, with racing drivers, constructor teams, track officials, organizers and circuits required to be holders of valid Super Licences, the highest class racing licence issued by the FIA.

On September 10, 2008 I spotted a waving flag on the online edition of the Colombian newspaper El Espectador (http://www.elespectador.com). It is a very dark grey (or black) flag with the F 1 logo and below the logo it reads FIA FORMULA 1 in white bold capital letters, and below that its WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TM in white capital letters, smaller than the previous title. You can see the logo here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_1

Watching CNN en Español tv news, there was a report on the Gran Premio de México (Mexican Grand Prix). They showed an F1 flag  with the name of the venue and the dates of the competition. Well, I spotted these flags (here  and here , ) where they show two types of flags, one being the traditional black background flag, and the other one is white. The pictures' captions are the same, and they read: "Ciudad de México, a 31 de Octubre de 2015. Afición y banderas de la Formula 1, durante el segundo día de pruebas del Gran Premio de México 2015, de la Fórmula 1, realizado en el Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Foto/Imago7" (Mexico City, October 31, 2015. Crowd and Formula 1 flags, during the second day of trials of the Grand Prix of Mexico 2015 of the Formula 1 being held at the Rodríguez Brothers Racetrack).

After taking another look at the photos that Esteban had sent us regarding the F1 Grand Prix of Mexico, I revised my original graphic that I sent a few days ago. The font wasn't quite right, so I fixed it. I've also included the version of the flag with a  white field.
