The Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) (Arabic: القوة الجوية العراقية; Al Quwwa al
Jawwiya al Iraqiya) is the aerial warfare service branch of the
Iraqi
Armed Forces. The Iraqi Air
Force was founded as RIrAF (The Royal Iraqi Air Force) on April 22,
1931 during the British rule of Iraq. Before the creation of the
new air force, the RAF Iraq Command was in charge of all British Armed
Forces elements in Iraq in the 1920s and early 1930s. After the 14
July Revolution in 1958 the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) dropped the "Royal" from its name.

"This has nearly not changed since 1931. It is a green triangle with a black
border. Superimposed on this has been a representation of the Arabic word
"Jaish", for army, in red."

Formed in 1931 as the Royal Iraqi Air Force, renamed in July 1958 to Al Quwwat
al-Jawwiya al-Iraqiya.

On the fin is painted the national flag. This marking changed when the
national flag changed.

The only change since 1931 was in tail insignia. While the Royal Iraqi Air Force used vertical
rudder stripes in green-white-red-black, since 1958 the national flag has been used as
fin flash (which was changed when the flag changed).
