The city emblem was adopted on Dec 25th 1952 by Notice No 32 but there is no flag law. The purple flag has a white city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized kanji 大 O of Ofunato in a form of waves and a mountain. It represents the city surrounded by beautiful mountains and rich sea.
