Symbolism

From the Gyeongsangnam/Kyongsangnam web site:

The flag features the symbol mark of the province. The meaning is described as:

Red color at the top [symbolises the] Passionate spirit of Gyeongsangnam-do people who love their province and nation.
Green color on the left [symbolises the] Nature and industries forming harmony.
Yellow color on the right [symbolises the] Fertile earth as the base of life.
Blue color at the bottom [symbolises the] Cleanliness of Nakdonggang River and the South Sea.
White color at the center [symbolises the] Strong Gyeongsangnam-do that shines like the rising sun.

The circle as a whole is founded on the spirit of unity to develop the whole areas of Gyeongsangnam-do equally by utilizing the abundant nature and the capabilities of Gyeongsangnam-do people.

Furthermore it represents Gyeongsangnam-do's infinite growth into the world by means of boosting the advanced technology and cultural & Tourism industry competitively in the 21st century of Asia Pacific Era.

Former flag

[South Gyeongsang Province former flag]

This design was reported by Jaume Ollé as a former flag of Gyeongsangnam-do (dates unknown). It is a two color flag, ~2:3, with blue over yellow in two chiral, equal-area "L"-shapes (in 180° rotational symmetry), divided by a line with two right angles and three segments, each parallel to either the vertical or horizontal edges of the flag: On the hoist half the flag is 1/3rd blue over yellow and on the fly half it is 2/3rds blue over yellow.
