Description

Is the Raja Di Hilir the same as the Raja Bendahara? They appear to have the same flag, anyway.
Santiago Dotor
, 28 December 2000

I think the Raja di Hilir is the second in line to the Perak throne, after the Raja Muda.
Andrew Yong, 8 January 2001

The Raja Muda's standard is white and yellow on a canton of a black flag. This was formerly the Raja Bendahara's flag. In 1959, the title Raja Bendahara was abolished. Hence, the flag is now used by the Raja Di Hilir.
Megat Iskandar bin Megat Zaharuddin, 21 and 24 April 2003

Before the Raja Bendahara's title was abolished in 1959, was the same flag (black with a white-yellow canton) used for both the Raja Di Hilir and the Raja Bendahara? Or were there two different flags for the Raja Di Hilir and the Raja Bendahara?
Santiago Dotor, 24 April 2003

Rajah di Hilir's Flag ca. 1939, possibly mistaken

[Rajah di Hilir's Flag ca. 1939, possibly mistaken (Perak, Malaysia)] 1:2  image by Ivan Sache, 13 January 2000

The 1992 facsimile edition [neu92] of Flaggenbuch 1939 [neu39], in the Corrections section, shows the flag of the Yang Amat Malia [sic] Raja Bendahara as the Sultan's flag, but with black field and thin yellow fimbriation between main field and canton.
Ivan Sache, 13 January 2000

It is not clear whether this flag was different in the 1930s or whether this is one of Neubecker's [neu92] very few mistakes — possibly a misunderstanding of a written description mentioning Perak's national colours used on the canton of a black flag or somesuch.
