Nes village

Flag: Diagonally divided from hoist top to fly botomin the form of two countercharged tulips of red and white.
Nes (Frisian: Nes) had 1-1-1999 422 inhabitants. It is a cosy village and an important gardening center in northeast Friesland. 'Nes' means 'corner' or small peninsula, the northeastern point of Westdongeradeel.
The flag of Nes has the diagonal division of the Coat of Arms of former Westdongeradeel; the countercharged tulip is a reference to the
gardening in the village. White is the color of the 'ûleboerd' - 'owl-board', a triangular wooden ornament in the top of the back of a farmhouse, with small openings to permit entry for mouse-chasers. Red and white were the colors of the region of Oostergo.

Nes Coat of Arms

[Nes Coat of Arms] by Jarig Bakker, 3 May 2004

Description: "Per pale: I. in red a half Nesser owl-board of silver issuing from the fess, namely an issuing seahorse with between the mouth and the breast a turned sitting bird touching both and a white tulip placed in the opened back diagonally right; in blue three golden stemmed and leaved wheat ears, placed two and one".
The Nesser "ûleboerd" (owl-board) is very rare in Fryslân, and has been placed in the (heraldic) right of the shield in the colors of the old shire of Oostergo. In the heraldic right part three wheat ears have been placed in the color of the municipal arms, in the same proportions as the stars in the municipal arms. The ears symbolize the agriculture in the environment.
