Zeeland was founded around scattered farms, where peat-exploitation
took place. The Latin name for such a farm was "Sala", in MiddleDutch
"sale" or "sele". So it became "Sele-land" - hence
Zeeland. Its name was not derived from the sea on its Coat of Arms!
