Shipmate Flagchart : http://www.flagchart.net
adopted 29 Jan 1991
The former flag was adopted 16 Apr 1962. Sierksma's Nederlands Vlaggenboek
(1962) [sie62] has this description:
"Square, quartered of red with 3 yellow six-spoked wheel, placed 2
and 1, and of 8 equally wide horizontal stripes of white and red."
The flag is identical to the municipal Coat of Arms. In practice the bottom-stripe
of the second quarter will become part of the fourth quarter, making this
unusually high. The placement 2 and 1 of the wheel is incorrect according
to the rules of "banistiek" (as vexillology was called then in the Netherlands).
Sierksma has an image of the flag in proportions 2:3, which can be found on the Shipmate site. I have made the image according to Sierksma's description (which is the same as in Derkwillem Visser's "Gemeentevlaggen en wapens Koninkrijk der Nederlanden", 2001 - there is a square image as well)
The Coat of Arms of Doorn was taken from the former St. Maarten chapter in Utrecht,
which owned Huize Doorn from the 12th century till 1635. The first and
fourth quarter with the three wheels were considered to be St. Maarten's
personal arms; the second and third quarter his family arms.
