Blazon: I grønt et gull hjortehode, sett forfra.
In English: Vert a deer head caboshed or.
Approved by the royal resolution of 4 November 1983 after a drawing by
Jarle Skuseth, redrawing the original idea by Birger A. Eikrem.
[c2j87]
The symbolic is explained so that green represent the agriculture and
the deer stands for large deer herds in the municipality. The 12
points in the antlers stand for the 12 electoral districts in the
municipality. [c2j87] also notes a 14th century seal of one Bjørn
Steineson from Voss showing similar design (with a mullet in the chief
between the antlers).
There is a number of similar design in use all around Europe. One that
comes to mind is
Garešnica in Croatia.
