Presentation of the Leeward Islands

Quoting the website of the Presidency of French Polynesia (page no longer online):

There are nine islands that make up the Leeward Islands in the western part of the Society Islands archipelago. The Leeward Islands are spread out over a vast area located between 151º and 155ºW and 16º and 17ºS.
The Leeward Islands are divided into two groups. There are the main islands of Huahine, Raiatea, Tahaa and Bora Bora along with the atoll of Tupai and the island of Maupiti. Further west, there are three small atolls: Mopelia, Scilly and Bellinghausen.
The Leeward Islands cover an area of 405 square kilometers and have a population of 26,838 (1996 census).

Flag of the Leeward Islands

The flag of the Leward Islands (photo, Les Nouvelles de Tahiti, 3 June 2000) is horizontally divided yellow-green-yellow (1:2:1) with the black letters "ISLV" (for Îles Sous-le-Vent) placed in the yellow stripe in an arched pattern.
The flag used during the futsal competition of the 6th Islands' Festival (April 2014; photos) is horizontally divided green-yellow with the black letters "ISLV" in an arched pattern over all.

Leeward Islands Federation, 1820-1845

According to the Flags of Paradise chart [brt96], the flag of the Leeward Islands Federation was red with five white stars placed 2, 1 and 2.
