Description of the flag

The Armed Forces of the Philippines Flag has the same ratio as the Philippine national flag and comprises three horizontal stripes, representing the three major services of the armed forces: green (army), royal/light blue (air force), navy blue (navy); and on the center, the arms of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as follows:
The coat of arms of the armed forces of the Philippines is a stylized triangle divided in three colors: red, yellow, and blue, representing the national colors; defacing the triangle is the eight-rayed Philippine sun (eight major rays each of which has a minor ray to the left and right of the major ray), in turn defaced with a stylized version of the ancient Tagalog script for "K", representing the Tagalog word "Kalayaan" or "Freedom," the stylized "K" resembling the Roman capital "I". Beneath the triangle is a scroll bearing the legend "Philippines" the entire surrounded by two laurel branches.
In some Armed Forces flags the laurel branches are dispensed with.

Historical Flags

The flags below were reported in 2002, but appear to have been replaced by the flags above.

Chief of Staff, Armed Forces

[Flag of Armed Forces of the Philippines] 3:4 by Željko Heimer, 10 November 2002

A red flag with the Armed Forces emblem in the canton and three white five-pointed stars in a rising diagonal. There are minor differences between the PAF emblem here and in Album des Pavillons (2000), but I have chosen to follow the images from PAF website. Based on evidence from the Commander of the Fleet flag it may be that the three stars are for the rank of the officer holding the position and that there may be different flags for different ranks. What I speculate is that these are not positional flags but possibly rank flags.
