Cyców commune: introduction

Cyców - rural commune, Łęczna County, Lubelskie Voivodship - former name: gmina Wiszniewice.
Gmina Cyców is a rural gmina (commune) in Łęczna County, Lublin Voivodship, in eastern Poland. Its seat is the village of Cyców, which lies approximately 19 kilometres (12 mi) east of Łęczna and 41 km (25 mi) east of the regional capital Lublin.
Area: 147.87 sq.km (57.1 sq.mi); Population: 7,516.

An agricultural commune; land under cultivation - 80%; forests - 8%.
First mentioned in 1421
The most important event in the history of Cyców  was the battle on August 16, 1920. The 7th Regiment of Cavalry (7 Pułk Ułanów Lubelskich) led by Major
Zygmunt Piasecki, in a brilliant charge, annihilated the Dotola Infantry Brigade of Mozyr Group of  Marshal Tuhhachevsky's Red Army doing the major damage to it on the eve of the pivotal Battle of Warsaw, which saved Poland and Europe from the Bolshevik deluge.
For the uncommon bravery, skill and effectiveness, the 7th Regiment was awarded the highest Polish military decoration - The Cross of Virtuti Militari - and is mentioned by name at the Tomb of Unknown Soldier in Warsaw.

Cyców commune new flag

There is an update necessary for Cyców flag and Arms.
Acting on the suggestion of the Heraldic Commission, Mr. Rafał Duszyca, the designer of the symbols of the commune, changed the primary color from blue to red on May 19, 2009.
The rendition of the sabres was also modified slightly (simplified).
The new design was re-submitted by the commune's council for the approval of the commission and ministry.
That process will take a while as they are working rather slow. (And it's raining there).

Arms and flag were submitted in late 2008 for opinion and approval of the Heraldic Commission and the Ministry of Interior Affairs and Administration.
Arms, designed by Mr.Rafał Duszyca, show on the blue shield two crossed cavalry sabres (sabers).
Flag repeats that motif but between two golden vertical stripes.

Flag is supposed to be 5:8, but the image at the municipal site (herb, flaga i pieczecie Gminy) is out of proportion.
