Established as a town on the Magdeburgian law in 1553
Long in possession of the Princely Radziwiłł Family (1598 to early
19th century) (patrons of Jews, Protestants and variety of dissidents).
1795 - Prussian occupation
1807 - Russian occupation
1919 - included into independent Poland
1939-41 - Soviet occupation
1941-44 - German occupation
1944 - back in Poland
During the WW II more than 50% of the town was completely destroyed. Of the Jewish population (60% of the total at the end of 19th century) only 4 persons survived. The town was once the home of the notable Zabludow Synagogue, a Wooden synagogue of a type unique to the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, built in 1637. A replica of the synagogue was made in 2004.
Arms (in the present form) adopted on August 21, 1990 (resolution #
IV/14/90).
Arms feature a Red Deer jumping to the left on white background.
Flag adopted on August 17, 1997 (resolution # XXX/176/97)
It is a horizontal bi-color of red over blue with the Arms placed in
its center.
I did reconstruct the flag of Zabłudów using the image from: <http://www.zabludow.pl/kategorie,112.html>.
