Radzionków - urban commune; Tarnowskie Góry County; Śląskie Voivodship - German name: Radzionkau.
Radzionków is a town in Silesia in southern Poland, near Katowice. Borders on the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union - metropolis, located in the Silesian Highlands.

It is situated in the Silesian Voivodeship since its formation in 1999, previously in Katowice Voivodeship, and before then, of the Autonomous Silesian Voivodeship. Radzionków is one of the towns of the 2,7 million conurbation - Katowice urban area and within a greater Silesian metropolitan area populated by about
5,294,000 people. The population of the town is 17,163 (2008). Area: 13.2 sq.km (5.1 sq.mi).

Oldest mentions come from the years 1326-1357 in the Vatican's records of Peter's Pence - (Denarii Sancti Petri).
In the aftermath of the Silesian Wars it found itself under Prussian rule. It became an important center of coal mining industry.
In 1920 the town chose Poland voting 4778 to 862 in the Plebiscite. Relations between the Poles and the minority Germans were very good until the WW II.
The Nazis arrested many Polish activists and send them to the concentration camps. Some were executed.
After the WW II, the Germans and many Poles were deported, either to Germany or to the Soviet gulags.
During the "People's Republic", the town was included in the city of Bytom, regaining the separate status and self-government only in the IIIrd Republic in 1998.

Arms adopted on September 11, 1999 ( resolution # 1/N/2/99) - On a blue, Spanish style, shield there is an image of Saint Adalbert (św. Wojciech) raised on a  white cloud, in the silver-red tunic, and holding in his right hand a paddle and in the left hand a Lotharingian cross. Both in gold.
The flag is brand new, adopted on October 15, 2009 (resolution # XLIV/387/2009) - Flag is in ratio 5:8 composed of four vertical bands in the proportions of
1/6:1/6:1/6:3:6 and in colors corresponding to those of the Arms: silver-red-gold and blue (the widest)
The ceremonial flag has the Arms added in the center.
There are some complains the flag is resembling too much the gay banners, others call it just a "rainbow flag".
