It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and white.

Shield Argent, a cape Gules semy of bezants between two grapevines Purpure leaved Vert, base wavy Azure, crowned by a barrulet wavy Argent crowned by a mountain issuant Vert. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "CAPARICA".
Meaning:
The bezanted cape probably is an attribute of Our Lady of Monte da Caparica, which means "mountain of the rich cape".

Shield Gules, base Or, crowned by five alternating barrulets wavy of Azure and Argent, crowned by a fortress Argent with two Spanish turrets, masoned Sable, flanked at dexter by an anchor Or topped by two oars of the same crossed per saltire, and at sinister by a pine tree Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "". "VILA DE TRAFARIA".
