It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white background (village rank)

The arms are Vert a bull passant Argent and in chief a spider Or, web of the Same. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "FREGUESIA DE ALVITO".
Meaning:
The word "alvito" has Arabic origin and it's not unique to this town. It may be interpreted as a diminutive of "alvo" (arch. for"white"), which may account for the white bull in the arms from some local legend - it wouldn't be the sole case of such canting Portuguese subnational heraldry: cp. the anagrammatic grenade tree in the arms of Amadora.

Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série in 1996.06.15.
