It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a background gyronny of eight (city rank), green and yellow.

The arms are Azure over a base wavy Argent charged with a barrulet wavy Vert over a varrulet wavy Azure, a sailing ship Sable with sails Argent, in central chief a radiant sun Or, bordure Argent charged with eight figs Vert fruited Or. Mural crown Argent with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "CIDADE DA FIGUEIRA DA FOZ". (on flag just "FIGUEIRA DA FOZ").
Meaning:
The bordure and the base wavy are canting elements. The city's name means "fig tree at mouth". The figs on the bordure are referring to "figueira", the base to "foz;", especially the blue wave is representing (tzhe mouth of) Mondego River, whilst the green wave is representing the Atlantic Ocean. The ship alludes to shipping and trading.

Figueira da Foz has 14 communes, among those four city boroughs, it belongs to the Coimbra District and historical province Beira Litoral, it had 62 125 inhabitants in 2011 and is covering 379,05 km².
