It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white background (village rank).
On shield azure an embattled tower argent flanked by two sugar loaves argent striped purple, above a couped cross patty argent with ends of cross bars are superimposed by three acorns or each. Mural crown argent wirh three visible towers (village rank), beneath white scroll with inscription in black capitals: "SANTO ANTÓNIO - FUNCHAL"
Meaning:
The acorn cross is an attribute of St.Anthony of Lisbon. The sugar loaves are probably symbolizing, that the commune belongs to Funchal.
