It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

Shield Argent, a base wavy of Azure and Argent, crowned by a sailing ship Sable, rigged Gules, in central chief a cross Gules of the Order of St. James, flanked by two scallops Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black capitals: "FREGUESIA DO MONTIJO".
Meaning:
The region belonged to the Order of St. James, represented by its cross. Probably it is the same with the scallops. The ship was typical in the region in order to tramsport local products. The base wavy is symbolizing River Tejo. Design by Joaquim Baldrico and Fernando Simões.

Montijo Commune is one of the five communes of Montijo Municipality (q.v.); it had 29 908 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 26.1 km².

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field.

The arms are Or a cogwheel Gules, in chief a millstone Azure between two rail profiles Gules, in base wavy Azure two barrulets wavy Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading "AFONSOEIRO" in black upper case letters.
Meaning:
The profiles stand for the former railroad Ramal do Montijo, which had its terminus in the communal territory (Montijo station).
