It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and white.

Shield Argent, a base wavy of Azure and Argent, topped by a tidal power station Proper on a meadow Vert, in chief a cross Gules of the Order of St. James, flanked by two triples of wheat ears Vert tied of the same. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black capitals: "SARILHOS GRANDES".
Meaning:
The region belonged to the Order of St. James, represented by its cross. The wheat is symbolizing the agricultural riches and the rural past of the commune. The power station is an important local building and alludes to the commune#s name (I don't know why however). The base is symbolizing an arm of River Tejo.
