The arms are Azure issuant from a castle wall with two towers Argent masoned sable with port and windows Gules an olive tree Proper fruited Or between two Christ Knights' Order crosses in chief. Mural crown argent with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "OLIVEIRA DE AZEMÉIS". The arms are canting, for "oliveira" is Portuguese for "olive". tree".

Oliveira de Azeméis municipality had 71 234 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 12 communes covering 163,41 km². It is part of Aveiro District, traditional province and 1999 ref. adm. region Beira Litoral, current C.C.R. / NUTS II Norte, and NUTS III Entre Douro e Vouga.
