Presentation of Fátima

Fátima is one of the 18 communes of Ourém Municipality and had 11 596 inhabitants in 2011 covering 71,29 km². It gained the rank of a city on 12 July 1997. Fátima is famous for its pilgrimage. It is reported that Our Lady of Fátima revealed herself to three herding children on 13 May 1914 giving three prophecies. Afterwards the huge "old" basilica was erected and opposite in 2007 the Church of the Holy Trinity (9000 seats). The square between both churches is said to be larger than St.Peter's square in Rome. Pilgrimage is still very important and besides faith and devotion also an important business line.
