It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a yellow and purple gyronny (city rank) background. The current flag has the usual modifications: gyronny of yellow and purple, the shield remained the same, the mural crown got five visible towers and the scroll's inscription turned to "MUNICÍPIO DE REGUENGOS DE MONSARAZ".

Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DE REGUENGOS DE MONSARAZ. ""Reguengo"" means ""crown land"" (i.e. royal property), though this is not shown in the arms, atypically so.

Reguengos de Monsaraz municipality had 11 382 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 5 communes covering 461,22 km². It is part of Évora District, traditional province Alto Alentejo, 1999 ref. adm. region and C.C.R. / NUTS II Alentejo, and NUTS III Alentejo Central.
Reguengos de Monsaraz was seat of a municipality since 1838, when the seat changed from Monsaraz, but definitely since 1851, perhaps because Monsaraz had already been a town. Reguengos de Monsaraz was upgraded to a town in 1840 and to a city on 9 December 2004.
The flag was changed probably between 2007 and 2011.
