Shield Gules, a fountain Argent spraying water of the same, on bordure 12 embattled towers Argent. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "VILA DE ALHANDRA".
Meaning:
The fountain is representing the local spa waters, the silver colour is the symbolizing the richness of its occurrence. The towers are representing the 30 fortresses of the region.The red colour is symbolizing the blood soaked battlefields during the Peninsular War against the French troops of Napoleon I , commanded by General Massena.

Shield Gules, two grapevines Or leaved Vert, in chief a Paschal Lamb, in base a triple mount issuant Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "SÃO JOÃO DOS MONTES".
Meaning:
The grapevines are representing the many kinds of vine cultivated in the region, being a source of the communes wealth. The triple mounts yellow colour is symbolizing the abundance of wheat. The Paschal lamb is an attribute of St. John the Baptist, the local patron saint. The triple mount and the lamb together are canting. The commune's name means: St. John of the Mountains.
