It is a quite typical portuguese municipal flag,
with the coat of arms centered on a yellow
and blue quartered background (town rank).

The arms are argent above three wavy fesses azure in counterchief and
between an orbicular cross gules at dexter and a
cross patty gules voided an
escutcheon charged with five plates per saltire
and on a chief gules a feather or per fess. Mural crown argent with four
visible towers (town rank) and white scroll
reading in black upper case letters "VILA DE REI".

Plain (monocolored) portuguese subnational flags are
not allowed to have armless
variations: plain flags always carry the coat of arms.

region Beira Interior, C.C.R. / NUTS II Centro and NUTS III Pinhal Interior
Sul. "Vila de rei" means "king’s town", showing a royal historical
connection which is reflected in the quina
escutcheon.
