Portuguese TV showed the main building of some port with a flag flying there. It was a white flag with a blue border and a large blue "P" on the centre.

Strange to see the flag flown on land…

According to Flaggenbuch [neu39],p.149 Pilot Flag, can be used as ensign on pilot vessels. 2:3 white flag with blue border and blue letter P in the middle. Practically the same design as in the Album 2000 [pay00] (except maybe for the minor difference in border width and minor letter stylization).

According to Flaggenbuch [neu39], International Signal used for pilot call.

In a 1990 reprint (facsimile of a 1848 flag chart of Norie and Hobbs), a flag numbered and labelled «216 Portuguese Signal for a Pilot» is like the 1706-1816 national flag, but with a red border.

The flag seems to be the same like the pre-1910 pattern of a captain in command, a blue swallow tail pennant with white tails. The shades are different. While the 1917 version is depicted in a very dark blue (ultramarine), the 1929 version displays a light blue. Nevertheless I think, both sources display the same flag
